Mr. Aye Min Thein is appointed as the Managing Director of Excellent Fortune Life Insurance Co., Ltd. and Excellent Fortune General Insurance Co., Ltd., both wholly owned group of companies of the EFD Group.

Mr. Aye Min Thein is currently the Vice Chairman of Myanmar Insurance Association. Prior to joining the Group, Mr. Aye Min Thein was the Managing Director of the state-owned insurance company Myanma Insurance.

Mr. Aye Min Thein has strong management and organizational skills. He has also acquired deep understanding of Myanmar’s insurance sectors specializing in risk management, liability insurance and property insurance. He is charismatic and developed strong relationships with the local insurance and financial industry, government agencies and regulators.

In 1979, he was appointed as a Second Lieutenant of the Myanmar Military. He was then promoted and held the rank of Colonel of the Regional Artillery Operation Division within the army. After serving his country for 30 years, Mr. Aye Min Thein retired from the army and took up the role as Managing Director of Myanma Insurance in 2010.

During his tenure as MD of Myanma Insurance, Mr. Aye Min Thein also served as Chairman of the Insurance Business Regulatory Board (IBRB) from 2011 to 2013, and was IBRB’s Secretary from 2013 to 2015. As MD of Myanma Insurance, Mr. Aye Min Thein played an instrumental role in the successful market liberalization to open up the insurance sector and bring forth a new era in the insurance sector in Myanmar especially for the local private insurance companies. As a direct result, The Ministry of Finance and Revenue (IBSB) has granted 11 local private insurance companies to operate on the 5th of September, 2012.

Mr. Aye Min Thein holds a Bachelor of Economics degree majoring in Statistics at Economic University of Yangon in 1978.
